Very little time is spent on discipline - but then, I am in a private school
where I have immediate support from the administration. For example, this
morning about 7 AM I did ask one table of 8 Freshmen to calm down and lower
voices. The calm lasted about 10 min. I then asked them to go to the
cafeteria - and the issue was resolved.

I speak to a student once - and once only. If the behavior continues- the
student is removed- send to ISS - a referral is written. I guess the
important rule is that I control my destiny. I determine the discipline
policy in the library and the penalties. I determine how long the student is
"banished" and whether I call the parent, issue a referral or what. This
year I have written 2 referrals. I have 4 students who were removed from the
library - one for 2 days; 3 for 1 week. Each must meet with me before
re-entrance to sign a behavioral contract with me about the issue that
caused the removal.
