I, too, wondered why they didn't use the furniture. Did they think the finish would produce toxic fumes?=20 My son thinks it was a deliberate message - they burnt what they didn't = feel was necessary - especially the tax codes... and saved the most = important- The Gutenberg Bible.=20 Toni Koontz Librarian St. Charles Preparatory School Columbus Ohio=20 Carpe Diem=20 -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Angela Wilcox Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2004 9:33 AM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Re: Day After Tomorrow As I was watching the movie this weekend with my daughter my mind kept wondering (and wandering), "Why aren't they burning furniture?" Books would make a good firestarter but undoubtably those big wooden chairs and tables would have made a warmer more substantial fire. Surely we are not more savvy than the Hollywood Think Tank (an oxymoron perhaps?) I suppose the lure of cart transportability made those bright but myopic young people head for the stacks.
