I need some advice about my first online book purchase, which has not gone too well. I used abebooks.com, which was a website that was highly recommended by another librarian. The book I purchased was less than $5.00. After weeks of waiting, I received a book that I did not order, valued at $26.00. I contacted the seller, which was under the name "Flickswap" affiliated with Amazon.com. After waiting 2 weeks for a response, I was finally told that he would trace my shipment. A week later, the book I did order finally arrived. I emailed him again, asking what I should do with the book that I did not order. I was told that I would need to pay for return postage ($11.00) and send the book back (and they would reimburse me later for this expense). I emailed him back and asked if he could possibly send me a postage paid envelope or do a UPS pick-up on the item. I just feel uneasy about this whole transaction, and I don't feel like I should have to bear the expense for the company's mistake. He emailed me back and gave me a long-distance phone number and told me we needed to talk. What do you think is the right thing to do in this situation? Is this a common practice for companies to expect the customer to pay for returning books that were not ordered? Or am I justified in expecting them to bear the cost for their mistake? Your advice will be greatly appreciated, Melissa Moak, Librarian Otken Elementary Library, K-2 McComb, MS -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
