Be careful when and where you practice things when you have free time:
I once had a long wait in the "holding area" outside surgery, while my
surgeon did some unscheduled emergency surgery. I used the time to practice
the American Sign Language alphabet for a test I had later that week. The
nurses didn't know what I was doing, and, thinking that I was exhibiting
signs of nervousness, they sedated me *three* times during the wait! It was
outpatient surgery, but I was so drugged I could hardly function the rest
of the day after I went home. It took *days* to get over it.
If only they'd asked. Or if only I'd thought to tell them.
