Well, my hair is very very short - if I had the guts I would shave my
head...and I wear contacts (bifocals). I have never worn my hair in a bun
altho I did have an afro in the 60s. I wear Birkenstocks (but not to
school - not allowed). Just lost 30 lbs on South Beach so look quite studly,
I think. So, that is my image. When I graduated in 1963 with my BLS (Ye
gads, he is old) we were discussing the stereotype of the librarian - if we
are still discussing it in 2004 - it might be time to celebrate the
stereotype. I agree with Mercedes - both librarian mentors to me in high
school (one school, one public) were, one might say, stereotypes. They wore
glasses, comfortable shoes, were single, wore no makeup, and spoke softly.
I loved them and they made me who I am today as a librarian. I don't think I
wish to change their image.

The one time I was forced to watch American Idol I noticed that all the
females looked alike (and sounded alike too - let's scream real loudly at
the end of the song ). Maybe that should be our new image. Let's collect
money and send Brittany Spears to get her MLS - now that would be an image
(NOT).
