Weed of the Month March 2004

This month's topic is Vietnam.

Vietnam - especially the Vietnam War - continues to be in the American news.
Attention to the still controversial war ebbs and flows over the years, with
renewed interest sparked often by some current news events. Today's
situation in Iraq and the upcoming U.S. presidential election have resulted
in a new examination of Vietnam and the war. For many of your students, it
will be the first time they have heard this issue in the news. Make sure
your collection offers current sources of information.

A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The
SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September, 1997, from an idea
by Mike Eisenberg, co-owner of LM_NET, and as an effort to help provide
Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and
suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well
as adding quality materials. A section of the collection is
identified each month during the school year (September through May)
as a weeding target.
