Sharon M. Draper, 1997 National Teacher of the Year! She spoke several =
times in BG last year and I went to one of the teacher meetings and one =
of the public meetings and she was excellent! She's dynamic, sold out on =
teaching and writing and books and is very personable.=20
Her YA books are geared to HS, not racy, depressing, or trashy, despite =
dealing with subjects like sexual abuse, teen death, and DUIs, and very =
popular with the kids in BG. She's also written two books for teachers: =
Teaching from the Heart, for what she calls "baby teachers" [education =
students] and newbies, and Not Quite Burned Out, But Crispy Around the =
Edges, for the rest of us <grin>! She lives in Cincinnati, OH, and her =
contact info is below. Good luck! The only dubious thing I know about =
her is she hates chocolate. There is something a little... off, about =
someone that hates chocolate, don't you think! LOL!
And will there be tapes available from this, if someone wanted to order =
some? A list or something? I write for a WA coffeehouse publication and =
would be interested in knowing what the theme is, who the speakers will =
