I agree with what Sybil said. It is so important to thank people for
sharing their most precious commodity - their time. I sometimes spent
20 minutes to an hour composing an email to assist someone with a
question. It is really hurtful when that email is not even
acknowledged.
I know that replying personally to everyone can be a bit time
consuming. Let me tell you what I do. In most cases, a standard thank
you reply can be composed. As the emails come in, I generally
copy/paste that reply along with a promise for a future "hit" if I am
planning to do one. I save the standard reply in a notebook file on my
desktop. That way I can find it easily to copy/paste it as I answer the
notes I get. Once the text is copied, replying to the emails takes
perhaps a few seconds more than the delete key. And I know what a perk
it can be to hear back from someone that you were able to help. The
vast majority of LM_NETTERS are very gracious.
