Hello Everyone, I am the Media Specialist at a 4-8 Middle School. The county I work in sponsors a Battle of the Books Competition (quiz bowl type competition where students read a list of assigned books) each year. All the middle schools compete against each other and the winner has the chance to move to the regionals and then to the state. This year will be the first year our school will not participate because we cannot get the students involved. They want to leave campus for the "field trip" but they don't want to take the time to read and study the books so we could do well in the competition. Some of the 8th grade students who was on it for 6th and 7th grade was not interested in being in it this year. Does anyone have any ideas on how to encourage the kids to join? What are some ways I could make it more interesting and not so boring.
