Share: Dr. Suess Activities

Our school had a wonderful celebration.  I invited Illustartator Barbara =
McClintock to visit the school. Each class took either one of her books =
or one of Dr. Suess' books and decorated their halls.  One class from =
each grade level gave a presentation during one of our two performances. =
 There was a contest for the primary, intermediate and staff member with =
the best costume.  Most of the staff ordered Dr. Suess hats from me.  A =
teacher friend of mine made them in a day and a half.

Barbara was great . She allows the kids to create a story and she =
illustrates as they tell the story. The whole staff was treated to a =
brunch of you guessed it, green eggs and ham which was actually broccoli =
quiche and baked ham. The ham was colored green. A local restaurant =
catered the event and the staff  brought lots of green side dishes such =
as lime jello and a been salad.  A local bakery made a sheet cake with =
the illustrators new book on the cake. Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  =
(Jim Aylesworth)  We had a great day.  The kids were so excited.  =
Barbara visited each class with the principal and each class was able to =
show her their preparation.

This is my third year bringing an author.  The first year I brought Jim =
Aylesworth who is awesome.  Last year I brought Christopher Paul Curtis =
who was awesome also.  A funy thing.   I read recently that authors and =
illustrators rarely meet.  So I asked Mr. Aylesworth if he would =
surprise Ms. McClintock.  He wanted to so badly but he was scheduled in =
Indianapolis the entire week.  He told me that although they have =
collaborated on many books, such as the Gingergread Man and Tale of =
Tricky Fox, they have never met.  Oh well I tried.   Kathy
