From Weekly Reader Teacher Companion: March 15 (Monday) "Beware the Ides of March! Roman calendars divided the days in every month into three parts: kalends (starting the 1st ), nones (beginning the 5th or the 7th), and ides (usually starting the 15th). Ask students to determine their birth dates according to Roman calendars." Here is a useful site from LII.ORG: <http://lii.org/search?goto=020792> The Ides of March: Just One of a Dozen Ides "The soothsayer's warning to Julius Caesar, 'Beware the Ides of March,' has forever imbued [March 15] with a sense of foreboding." Also includes links to related calendar information. <http://lii.org/search?goto=020792> http://www.infoplease.com/spot/ides1.html Some Trivia! "March 19 On this date in 1994, the largest omelet in the world was made in Yokohama, Japan-using 160,000 eggs! Have kids figure out about how many one-dozen egg cartons would be needed to cook up this record breaker? [Answer: 13,334 cartons holds 160,008 eggs.]" Sybil Finemel Library Director MLIS.CIO. Manners are what vex or soothe, corrupt or purify, exalt or debase, barbarize or refine us, by a constant, steady, uniform, insensible operation, like that of the air we breathe in."
