One of my Language Arts teacher's brought me this request. I told her I knew where to find the answer! TIA My brother Jack is looking for a young-adult novel he read in the 6th grade (he's 30 years old now, so it was some time ago, probably around 1983). He says that on the cover, there is a picture of a staircase, and the novel's plot involves kids who are incarcerated in this staircase-type-maze in which they must respond to stimuli in order to receive food and water, so they are like rats in a maze. When the kids are released, they think that the traffic lights in the outside world are stimuli like those in the maze. Does this plot ring any bells? Jack really wants to find this book again. P.S. Jack's teacher read it to his whole class, so it may be a novel that was popular for class-wide read alouds in the mid 1980s. Jeanie Dawson Librarian Victory Lakes Intermediate School 2880 W.
