Hi all-- Clarify something for me. I had a someone ask me the difference between automating a library and digitizing one. (I was told by this person that it's not called automating anymore!) As I see it "Automating " is the term used when converting a card catalogue to a computer database like Mandarin or Winnebego, and providing access to that catalogue using a computer. (Involving barcoding the books, etc.) "Digitizing", as I believe it to be, is the process of converting by scanning certain materials, usually rare or delicate materials, so they may be accessed on the library computer, as opposed to being handled manuaally. Am I off the mark on these ideas?
