Wow.  I received a dozen replies so quickly.  The consensus seems to be that
he is Avi Wortis (also Irving Wortis/Edward Irving Wortis).

It seems he is either in Providence RI or Boulder CO.  Still working on
which is more recent.

Hello-

Does anyone know Avi's "real name?" His website says he just uses Avi, but I
seem to recall in previous years that students have found his real name.

Also, does anyone know where students should write to him?  All I can see is
the HarperCollins address in New York.  We haven't had much luck getting any
responses from there.
