Thanks for the information on Library Sparks. I got enough positive responses that I am going to try a subscription. I guess I'm kind of looking for a "Mailbox" for librarians. Sounds like this is on the right track. Next question - periodicals for kids. I'm a 3-4 librarian and I didn't subscribe to any magazines for kids this year. I have a tight fixed schedule and the kids don't have time to look at magazines when they are in class. We didn't allow check out due to the responsibility issue. They can destroy the best library bound book - a magazine stands no chance...even in protective covers. SO. I don't want to deny them the opportunity to learn, so I'm thinking about incorporating something into my classes. Question: Do you know of any good magazines - like Weekly Readers, etc., that are literacy based - for my age group? I'd like to subscribe to a class set - say 30, that I could use for all 400+ of my students. I'd like to have a day set aside every week or two when we go through the magazine, read the stories, poems, etc, talk about it and so forth. Good idea, bad idea, what do you think? My day is packed now, but that would give them a break for the ordinary. Let me know what you think!
