LM_NET Archive



This is interesting. I saw Avi at the Penn State
Literature Matters Conference a few years ago. He
would not share his real name with us, but he did say
if we heard his name we would be familiar with his
family name as there were several writers of works for
adults in his immediate family. He chooses not to use
his last name because he feels he got little or no
support from his family in his writing efforts. He
loves to write, as we all know, and look who gets the
awards! I searched Amazon and found many Wortis
entries, including one Avi Wortis. Avi also told us he
is disgraphic, a learning disability which makes
writing very difficult, and it is not unusual for him
to rewrite 70 or more times before he feels he is
ready to give a new work to his publisher. He is an
incredible example to any challenged student.
