I should qualify this by saying I still try to select "thoughtfully"
and I'm not encouraging challenge. But I will quietly add good titles
when I come across them and as the budget priorities allow.

My apologies for being led astray on the elementary aspect of the
issue. I was addressing the internal struggle many of us go through
and probably on a variety of topics. This happens to us regardless
of level.

I would still be less likely to add certain titles at the elementary
level where things are often more... sensitive. Yet I would have no
objections to my own children reading about families they see in
real life represented in books. This has been a pretty open topic
in our household tho I understand some families are uncomfortable
with the subject.
