I also would like to thank Julie for her response. As a librarian I would like to
think that I promote the freedom to read, the freedom to find opposing/differing
points of view, and freedom of access to information regardless of my own biases. I
want all of my customers to be able to find themselves in my library, and also to
be able to find out about people who are not like themselves. We cannot make
informed decisions about issues unless we understand differing points of view.
Without understanding we do not stand a chance of creating a peaceful world where
everyone can be who they are and can live without hatred. This never has been and
never will be a cookie-cutter world, and it is when we try to make it so that we
create problems.
