Hi, Sorry for bad format of initial posting. What I was trying to say was what was overlooked in the content of the program was how the nature of the assignment facilitates or discourages such "copy and paste research". If the assignments requires the student to draw own conclusions, justify own opinion with facts, recognize a relationship, identify similarities and differences etc. they can not simply copy and paste from a source. Asking students to identify shared attributes of capitol cities, rather than "do a report on" one capitol city results in a very different finished product and level of learning. As to the use of cell phones and PDA's to cheat, again it is the nature of the question being asked. If all that is needed is to know and plug data into a formula then access to the formulas will suffice. If however the question requires recognizing the context for applying different formulas than just the formula won't lead to success on the exam. In this day and age memorizing formulas is insignificant. What is important is knowing when to apply which one. What bothered me most was the student's attitudes. A big step could be taken in making much of the high tech processes identified pointless if the assignments required interpretation not regurgitation of information. M.
