State books/country books series-Gr. 2-4

Hi,
We are in the (exciting) process of choosing books for a new 2nd-3rd grade
school library and are in the fortunate position to be able to consider the
purchase of an entire "series" of state and country books.  What would you
recommend with so many series to choose from?  "Countries of the world" is
not part of the social studies curriculum at this grade level, but we feel
it's important to have books on a variety of countries/cultures available
for browsing (going to visit that country, family is from the country, world
events focus on that country, etc.).  And our curriculum frameworks for 3rd
grade specifically focuses on our own state, but this will probably be the
only time for a long time that we can purchase a whole set of state books.

Thanks for your recommendations and I'll be glad to post a "hit" if there's
any interest.
