Depending on how active or "rough" the travel will be, a portable
water-purifier with some extra filters would be great. Also a good
"Leatherman" style knife. These can be found at
http://www.leathermanstore.com/ or at a local sporting goods store near
you. What about a good safari-style hat with some mosquito netting
around the brim? One of those vests with all the little pockets like
photographers wear? L.L. Bean has lots of good duffel / travel totes.
Those zip-off pants are nice, the kind that convert from slacks to
shorts. There are some really nice windbreaker-style jackets that are
mostly rain-proof but that "breathe" so you don't get so hot and sweaty
wearing them. The older fabric kept you dry from the outside but you'd
be soaked from the inside.
