Joy:

It is very frustrating, I know.....but Deep Freeze is nearly bullet-proof,
and works VERY well at foiling mischief on the network. Here is how we
worked around this at my site. I had the password to unfreeze Deep Freeze,
so I could put in bookmarks and such. I would then refreeze the
computers. My clerk and I did this on an assembly line basis (it requires
two re-boots of each computer). We got it down to a science, but it DID
take a lot of time. Later, we got the IT department to set up a timed
function that would unfreeze the machines at a set time (outside of student
hours) for a short period of time....30 minutes, say. Then the machines
would re-freeze. If I had changes to make, they were done then. If not,
they were just ignored during the 30 min unfrozen time. NOT the most
convenient arrangement, but it worked, and Deep Freeze DID prevent a lot of
messing with the computers, which had been epidemic at the high school. A
pleasant side effect was we no longer had the "Quick, put these bookmarks
on your computers for my class next period" kind of requests. We just said
with complete truthfulness, "Sorry, we must have at least 24 hours notice,
the security program only lets us make changes at one brief period each day."
