Why isn't the teacher previewing it? I know you have it available in
the library, but what YOU think is okay may not be what she wants to
show to her class. (Besides, this puts her back into the "instructor's
seat" because she knows what the content is and how much of the video
she really thinks is necessary for her instructional objectives.) =20
I'd suggest that she preview it herself so that she knows what the video
contains, whether it is something that she wants to use on a "regular
basis"--if the Odyssey is a part of her curriculum--and whether she
might want to consider using a more "historical documentary" of the book
by purchasing an additional video (from the History Channel, Discovery,
etc.)
It's not that this is a difficult task or something that you wouldn't
mind doing, it's just one more example of "everyone in
education"--students, teachers, administrators, parents-- expecting the
librarian to provide them with the important information immediately,
without them doing some research (work) themselves. No one learns from
the process, except the librarian.

I have a videotape of "The Odyssey" from 1997 starring Armand Assante,
Greta Scacchi, Isabella Rossellini and Vanessa Williams. It is a
Hallmark Home Entertainment film. A teacher wants to show it tomorrow
but asked me to preview it for sex scenes. I need to have the television
on for election day coverage. Has anybody seen this to give me the
"okay" on its content? I cannot imagine that it, being from Hallmark,
could be very graphic. Thank you.
