Hi all, Tuesday, I asked you all to respond to a question about leaving school to vote. Several of you asked me to post my findings, so here goes... 54 - yes (allowed to leave school to go and vote) 36 - no 10 - school closed due to voting. I learned this is a very common practice, primarily in the New England states. Many schools are used as polling places there. A few people wrote to say that NOT allowing employees to leave work to vote is against the law. However, no one could direct me to the actual law, and I could not find it myself. My own informal "research" into this matter leads me to believe that employers are only required to allow employees to leave work to vote if their work shifts completely overlap voting time (including commute time). Furthermore, the law varies by state. Thanks for your input.
