[LM_NET] Need an EASY high school novel

Hi,
One of my special ed World history teachers has used So Far From the Bamboo Grove 
and now wants to read a novel for every historical period!  (I am thrilled!) I 
would love suggestions for medieval period ((we may use Catherine Called Birdy) or 
Islamic world (we may use Shabanu)?  We need a great story and easy reading.
