I need the group brain for titles of these 2 old stories (if possible):

1- A turn-of-the-century Americanized version of the Norwegian Askeladden story
in which he is called something like Ashy Paddle. (This one's for my aged aged
aunt. She says it's not Ash Lad and her teacher read it to her class--located in
Idaho. She's SURE it was Ashy Paddle and no other version will do--if it exists)

2-A 1930s-1950s(?) story set in Wyoming in which Boss--a lady shepherd who lives in
one of those little houses on wheels--takes in a migrant (?) boy found along the
road. She calls him David after David in the Bible. He and 2 sheep dogs help her
with the sheep and fight off a grizzly. Eventually he helps her, but I'm not sure
how. (This is for a friend's husband who wants very badly to read this story to
his daughter. It's a 3rd-4th reading level and he could still find it in public
libraries in PA in the 70s.)

Thanks for any help you can give.
