Our library coordinator shared what she shares with principals in an effort to make them aware of what is asked of a librarian who is "in rotation" or provides planning period. We have a few schools who have flex access, but the majority of our elem. are "in rotation." She said she explains to the principals that they are asking a librarian to do 2 jobs simultaneously......the job of a teacher and the job of a librarian. She sometimes points out that a music or art teacher does not teach the class while checking out instruments, cleaning instruments, ordering new instruments, repairing instruments, helping children find the instrument of choice etc. Perhaps someone can use this idea in enlightening others..
