Dear individually and collectively creative thinkers, There’s been a resurgence in the debate about phonics vs whole language here in this state. See: http://smh.com.au/articles/2004/11/07/1099781247124.html?oneclick=true for the online version of the article that was on Page 1 of the Sydney Morning Herald. From my (high school) perspective, this would relate more to emergent readers and or NESB/ESL (non-English native speaking) students. Or am I wrong? From my observations of discussions on this topic (and without wishing to offend anyone or open any new – or old – cans of worms), is there any valid research on the phonics vs whole language issue? Much of the evidence that is most easily accessible relies heavily on anecdotal evidence. Would greatly appreciate being steered towards published material(s). Thanks in advance, Amanda Credaro Sydney, Australia Wearing many hats as usual – none of them purple. http://www.warriorlibrarian.com <http://www.warriorlibrarian.com/> email: abcredaro@ozemail.com.au -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
