For National Children's Book Week next week I am planning on culminating the week with a school-wide read-in in our gymnasium. For a donation of fifty cents or more, kids can wear their pajamas and the money we raise will be used to buy books and donate them to a local organization that takes in kids whose parents are no longer capable of caring for them. At the assembly, I was planning on reading a book to everyone before we all actually start our silent reading time but have not yet come up with a book that I want to read! I'm looking for a funny picture book, that (obviously) lends itself to being read aloud and that could be appreciated by a K-5 population. I think I would prefer a newer book although if someone has an older book that would be perfect, I'd love to hear that too! I'm a new librarian at this school and would love to wow my audience! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did search the archives and didn't come up with anything. I'm also wondering how best to project the illustrations so that everyone can see them.
