I did the same thing Friday for a parent whose child "never brought the book home".
She searched the classroom and the students' desks. She came twice to school to
swear her child did not have the book and some one had stolen it from her
daughter's desk. Today she returned the book. It was in the car trunk. I had to
smile.

Just wanted to thank the person who suggested printing out a picture of
a lost book from BTSB or Amazon. It sure worked.
I had a conversation with a parent re a lost book this week. It was one
of those "MY CHILD does not remember having the book" conversations.
The mother reluctantly agreed to pay the $5.00. (I told her that in my
experience it seems like paying for the book always makes the book turn
up...it really does!)
The shelf list showed the book in June and the child was the first one
to check out the book in September. I had carefully straightened up the
library during a recent professional day (a rare happening in my busy
schedule) so I could double-check all overdue books before putting
those "N" for needs improvement/responsibility for library books on a
few report cards. I had sent out the notices for books from before
September 30th a few weeks ago but wanted to make sure.
I printed out the picture because it was an obscure book and I could
not describe it to the 10-year old. The very next day this book was
found in the classroom.
I don't have time to do this for every overdue book, but will remember
this trick because it sure works! With a budget of less than $400.00, I
really make an extra effort to have students look long and hard for
their lost books!
Thanks again to whoever suggested this idea!
