Kathy, yes, you could have worn it out... but before you toss it, try
these...

1.      Are there batteries for the trackball, and are they fresh? Are the
infrared ports clean?

2.  reset the preferences in the software.  First, reset to default,
reboot, then set the preferences the way you want them.

3.  If that doesn't work, delete, then reinstall the software.

4.  Buy a new one.
