For a book club this week, I just finished reading _The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time_ by Mark Haddon, which is set in England. The main character is a fifteen-year old boy with Asperger's (form of autism) who is driven to take his A-level maths and get an A. Other characters seem surprised he will do this. Can anyone explain A-levels? When are they usually taken, and are they taken to advance to university or a previous education level? Is there one for every subject? Would a 15-year old usually take them? At the end of the novel, the main character did get an A, and plans "to take A-level further maths next year"..."and I am going to pass it and get an A grade. And in two years' time I am going to take A-level physics and get an A grade." (220) By the way, I recommend the book!
