Looking for the title of this story and the title of the anthology it
appears in, for the storylady at our Glencoe Elementary School.
"In the spring of 1956, when I was finishing up first grade at Vernon,
our reading group read a story about two kids who made a boat. I loved
the story because it seemed to capture summer and I wanted a copy for me
very own. I had a red pencil and one morning, instead of writing my own
story, which was the assignment, I began copying the story about the
boat. I got in trouble for not following instructions and had to stay
in from recess but, by the end of the morning, my pencil was down to the
nub and I had my story."
It's a long shot, but I'm hoping that our collective knowledge will,
even with this skimpy information, allow me to wow the storylady!
