[LM_NET] GEN: simple software-based inventory check-out and tracking?

Hi all:
This might seem like a no-brainer to many of you, but I'm having trouble with it. I 
suspect I'm simply not seeing the forest.

I'd like to be able to easily track the AV equipment use without a lot of work on 
my end. My ideal would be a database that staff are able to interface with to sign 
up for equipment. I'd like them to NOT be able to alter other teacher's equipment 
choices for obvious reasons. It seems that there is probably an easier way to do 
this than setting up a complex Filemaker database, but that's where I keep heading. 
Tell me there's some cheap piece of software out there.

And, yes, I could simply continue to do this with my calendar sign-up sheet, but 
think of all the info I could go to the school board / principal with if I could 
gather it...
