Further to Erin Ells's email below, author Elizabeth Levy is scheduled to be a
featured speaker at SLMS on Friday, May 6, 2005 from 9:45 to 10:30 am. Sponsored by
her author appearance booking agency, Balkin Buddies, Elizabeth Levy will autograph
books following her presentation. Some of Ms. Levy's books include Dracula is a
Pain in the Neck; Keep Ms. Sugarman in the Fourth Grade; My Life as a Fifth Grade
Comedian; Night of the Living Gerbil; The Principal's On the Roof; and Vampire
State Building. A bookstore vendor will have her books for sale at SLMS, but feel
free to bring your own copies from home or your school if you wish. Elizabeth Levy
and I look forward to seeing some of you there.

Subject: GEN: NY SLMS 2005 Conference
Greetings NY SLMS:
I know the 2005 Conference Committee is working hard to get the program schedule
set. They are sorting the proposals as I write this e-mail. For now they have
announced the keynote speaker: Ross Todd, School of Communication, Information &
Library Studies, Rutgers University. Co-researcher with Carol Kuhlthau also of
Rutgers University, of Ohio Study entitled "Student Learning Through Ohio School
Libraries." It is the first comprehensive study based on students' evaluation of
their media centers. Survey of 13,123 Ohio students reveal 99.4 % of students in
grades 3 to 12 believe school libraries and their services help them become better
learners.
Also speaking will be Joseph Roy, Principal of Joyce Valenza's High School in PA.
(Joyce is the SLMS.) He is also on the cover of SLJ in October. 4000 post cards
went out yesterday to LMS all over the state. Check the SLMS webpage for more info:
