I frequently peruse the collections that many of the vendors we use have
that do include reviews from our favorite publications, Kirkus, Booklist,
SLJ, etc.
Not to advertise (and just because you look at the reviews, etc. you're not
obligated to purchase) but Follett and Sagebrush both offer these.
Amazon is not a good source for reviews-- but I do see the point of the
student-written "book reviews." On a commercial vendor site like Amazon,
the "I purchased this book and this is what I thought" review may or may not
provide an accurate perspective of what your students may think. I work in
a school where I doubt that the general population is from the same
demographic of teenagers/youth who take the time to write book reviews or
have the resources to do online book ordering. Just consider who wrote the
reviews if you're trying to match the general interest of students in the
books: children with access to technology and a credit card. Do the
high-interest lower-level books you may be purchasing appeal to those
reviewers?
just my two cents
and hang in there with the challenge! I know if you have documentation of
your sources for those reviews, you will pull through.
