Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to my question about Lib= rary Aides being required to be certified as "highly qualified" under NCLB.= Misery loves company, and I see that we all have to deal with this. Howe= ver, the other day we came across the following on the New Jersey Departmen= t of Education website (at this URL: http://www.state.nj.us/njded/grants/n= clb/paraprofessional_regs.shtml): "Are there any exceptions to the employment criteria for paraprofessionals? Yes. The requirement for two years of study, or an associate=E2=80=99s degr= ee, or completion of a formal assessment does not apply to paraprofessional= s involved solely with translation, personal care services, library/clerica= l assistance and those only conducting parental involvement activities. It = only applies to those who have instructional responsibilities. " I think my district is going to accept this as meaning my aide is exempt. = It seems to apply. She does not have instructional responsibilities. Mayb= e this will help someone else, too. Shayne Russell Library Media Specialist Kenneth R.
