Tech: spacing and text won't go away

Hello,

I have a problem that I just can not fix.  When I open
Word, I am unable to change the paragraph spacing.
Also, there is always text on the page from something
I word processed quite a while ago.  It is almost as
if I made a template for Word which includes a certain
spacing, italic font and the text from the long ago
document.

How can I get rid of this?  You may reply directly to
my home and thank you very much!
