I have a question about our approach to research. I was talking with a media specialist last week who told me that she had requested a fixed schedule of 45-minute classes and her principal had agreed. I asked her what about the kid who asks his teacher, "What is a beaver?" How can the teacher send him to the media center and how can you help him find a book on beavers if you're always with a class. She replied, "Let the teacher show him a beaver on the classroom computer!" Is this the way we want to go? I love the process of locating information in the media center and I think it is a crucial part of education, but I see that the teachers in my school don't value it very much and I wonder if I am just out of touch. I don't want to be reduced to keeping the AR books in circulation and nothing else. I would love to see some comments on this question.
