Hi everyone, I know this can be a very sensitive issue in current times, but I am very frustrated. My school didn't have a certified library media specialist for the last 4 years before I started in the 2003-2004 school year. They also didn't buy any books and didn't have a line in the budget. The collection is small and seriously outdated. I spent hours doing a complete collection analysis to show the need for updating. My principal is very supportive of requiring the teachers to come in for research, but he doesn't want to spend any money. I approached him about it and he told me I would have less money than I did the previous year. I didn't even have a budget last year. Are there any other schools out there that do not have a line in the budget? If you would be willing to, I would really appreciate hearing what your budget is - esp. Iowa and private schools, but any would be helpful. If you could email me offline, all you would need to do is type in a figure like $5000. If you want to separate it into print, etc, you may, but I feel I need to present him with a general picture of what is out there. Thank you SO much . .
