Dear Rita
The person who revolutionised teaching writing was Donald H. Graves and even
though he was doing his thing in the 80s, what he did then is now just
accepted practice because he was so right.  His total focus was the process
not the product.  It is equally applicable to high school as primary because
you just apply the principles and practices at a different level.  Graves
has written heaps but I particularly like Writing : teachers and children at
work.  Even if there are new folk out there now offering new ideas, it all
started with Graves and so I believe he would be a critical part of any such
assignment.

Others who had a big part to play were Don Murray and Lucy Calkins - her
"Lessons from a Child" is a must-read.
