Dear Rita The person who revolutionised teaching writing was Donald H. Graves and even though he was doing his thing in the 80s, what he did then is now just accepted practice because he was so right. His total focus was the process not the product. It is equally applicable to high school as primary because you just apply the principles and practices at a different level. Graves has written heaps but I particularly like Writing : teachers and children at work. Even if there are new folk out there now offering new ideas, it all started with Graves and so I believe he would be a critical part of any such assignment. Others who had a big part to play were Don Murray and Lucy Calkins - her "Lessons from a Child" is a must-read.
