Based on a model used at a neighboring school, I am going to use the library
exclusively for poetry reading/performance next Friday, April 8. Anyone
coming
into the library that day must read a poem (even if it's just a haiku).
Poetry
will be read through the entire period, for all seven periods that day,
leading up
to a music jam during eighth. No other work will take place in the library
that
day.

Fortumately, the ELA teachers are excited about
this and plan to bring in classes for at least four of these periods, which
will
fill up the time easily. I'll have stacks of material ready to fill up
empty time,
but I'm hoping to remain mostly in the background (except for reading one
poem each period). I have advertised it so that students know they may use
costumes, props, perform in teams, etc. Anything goes.

This will be the first time for this at our school. I'm looking for other
people's experiences with this type of day, and what worked and didn't work
for you.

Thanks-
Steve
