Hi all I sent a request for help with an e-mail and internet filtering situation a couple of weeks ago. I sent a thank you to the list but I have never seen it come through. I wanted to let everyone know that my meeting with my administrators and teacher's association representatives went fairly well. We will be rewriting our board policies and the technician who has been reading our e-mails is being addressed by his supervisor. Thank you all again for all of your help. I will probably be asking for help again as we work through this problem. I'm attaching my original message if any wonders what I'm talking about! Hi all I'm sorry to be begging for help at the last minute. I have been invited (actually pretty much invited myself) to a meeting after school today regarding our school's e-mail and internet filtering policies. We have had problems recently with both of these systems. Our technicians have configured our e-mail filter so that more than 1000 messages get caught in it each day. One technician then looks at all of these messages and decides which ones should be allowed to pass through. He has announced that he will not allow any personal e-mail through. (To paraphrase his words...notes about grandma's health, etc will not be allowed.) This is not actually a part of our policy, he just decided this. Tempers are flaring since he is reading so much of our e-mail. Many are questioning how he has time to do this, etc. Also, like many of you, our internet filtering system is far too protective. My question is, are any of you out there actually happy with the way these things are being handled at your school? Are there media specialists out there who are able to control these systems? I would like to go into this meeting with some positive ideas and not just complaining. Sorry for the length, and tone, of this message. Thanks for anything you can do.
