This fall I wrote a successful grant for an audio collection and it's benefitting the student body in many ways. I suggested to parents that families can listen together either at home or in the car while driving around town in the midst of myriad errands or while taking a long drive. Although most selections are literature, I also bought some science and social studies as well. Not everyone is interested in just hearing a novel. An added benefit is that teachers are checking them out to keep up with their "reading" during commutes. Most teachers and librarians are frustrated with the lack of time available to catch up on our acquisitions and excited teachers are spreading the word that they can make better informed decisions on curriculum and summer reading suggestion if they're familiar with as many titles as possible.
