I have a question for all libraries working in elementary schools. This is my first year at this school & as a librarian & I'm not liking it at all right now. Special Area teachers (Music, PE, Guidance, Library) are basically considered "babysitters for teachers' planning time" here (forget that there are days when we don't get a single minute of planning and/or time to go to the bathroom. We get no respect from the teachers, students or even the principal. The other teachers (Music, PE, Guidance) all want to leave because it's so terrible, but I can't because this is my first year in this county so I don't have tenure yet. Our Guidance teacher has been crying her eyes out today because....1) it's a 12 class day (no break whatsoever); 2) teachers are ALWAYS late picking up there kids & another teacher will just drop off her class & leave (leaving her w/2 classes until the other teacher shows up); and 3) there is no support from other teachers or the principal. The other 2 teachers have all had crying days too. Fortunately I haven't yet, but if it continues like this I'm sure I will. Please let me know if others are in this type of situation. Thank youi.
