How many copies of the Koran do you have? Does this belief also apply to books related to the Koran which are shelved next to it? To me, respect for another's religious beliefs is the important issue here. If this is true, that the Koran should not be placed so low, and you are only dealing with one or two volumes, I would place a marker where it should be and just move it to a vacant, higher spot where it could be easily located. We make modifications to Dewey to accommodate local usage, so I don't feel it necessary to adhere to rigid shelving rules if it will offend someone's religious beliefs.
