First of all, I would like to thank those of you who responded to my question about the book with the lost cat. Most of you thought it was Cross Country Cat by Mary Calhoun. The teacher who requested the info has yet to respond to let me know if you're right or not, but thank you for your help. Now for a new question. I recently found out from the other librarians in our district (to which I am brand new) that they have not received any federal funds for the last two years. Supposedly we will not be getting any federal money this year either. According to the other librarians, this money is being used to pay teacher aides across the district, not just in the library. My question here is: are they allowed to do this? Does federal money for ADA and ADM not have to go to the library to purchase books for student use? Is there any money that the district is required to distribute to the library from federal sources? I am concerned because we do not have a budget from local or state money either. According to the teachers who filled in in the library at my school the last two years, they received no money at all and had to find sponsors for everything they purchased. I am trying to convince the other librarians that there must be something we can do to at least get back into the budget. The longer we are left without money and don't make any noise, the more the district will think, "well, they must not need it, so we'll just keep giving it to other departments." Any suggestions or helpful information on this topic would be extremely welcome. I will post a hit. Thanks in advance.
