FINALLY my Knowledge Quest arrived today. I'd like to share a snippet
from Eugene Hainer's article School Librarians and Advocacy (psst. page 27)
"there is one thing everyone should put at the top of the want list:
the ability and willingness to be a personal force for political
changes. Every person working in school libraries has a
responsibility to be advocates for themselves and their programs. If
school librarians are to survive into the next decade, there must be
one strong, consistent library message delivered to all elected
leaders at every opportunity: "School libraries are essential to learning."

WOW! Very powerful. I am very jealous of everyone who received their
KQ last week. You have had so much time to dwell upon what you read.
I decided I needed to share that paragraph while I sipped my coffee
and everyone else was asleep at my house. There is so much good stuff
in there that I hesitated on just choosing one to mention.

This one spoke to me because I am the chair of the AASL Legislative
committee. I am not a politician. I giggle when I drop names of
legislators we meet. I'm not working on the legislative committee
because I enjoy trying to get out of school two days in May and
convince my husband to take care of those 4 teenagers during their
busiest month. I advocate on the legislative committee because
EVERYONE's voice needs to be heard and I want to poke you in the ribs
so you speak up for your library, also. If you haven't met me yet in
person, I assure you that I would do so if you remained a silent
sufferer. <grin>
Tell us specifically what passage in KQ spoke to you.
