Hello all. We have a wonderful reading coach who has approached me about establishing a "book room" in our school to house levelized readers. These books will not be housed in the library because a) they will not be purchased with library funds b) they will be thin paperbacks and will probably not last very long c) they are being sorted by reading level. What she envisions is sets of books, 6 paperbacks per title, 10 titles per level. (I'm not sure how many levels. We are a K-4 school.) Books would be sorted by level. I suggested placing the books in hanging plastic bags and purchasing appropriate display racks from Highsmith (or other like vendor). Do any of you have such a separate book room at your schools? If so, how are the books displayed? How are they circulated? (automation system, honor system...) What are the advantages and disadvantages of NOT housing these books in the library?
