You are being simplistic. A major reason to assign research is to
introduce students to the concept that there are myriad sources of
information and not all of them are equal. Students tend to rely on
whatever is easiest and quickest to meet their needs. We shouldn't
cater to these tendencies. Further, if more and more people are using
fewer and fewer sources of information, we'll ultimately be limited to
those sources and eventually to a self imposed type of censorship.
That's why I subscribe to three newspapers even though I sometimes don't
have time to read all three.

Subject: [LM_NET] Why databases instead of the Web?

At the risk of being simplistic or argumentative, why do school library

media centers need to continue subscribing to general databases for
student research? Databases with specialized information continue to
have a niche, but could it not be argued for the run of the mill
research paper, students can and do find quality information without
sifting through five different databases?
